Natasha Hirst

Dr Natasha Hirst is a freelance photographer and journalist specialising in disability equality and social justice. She documented the work of the UK delegation of disabled people’s representatives at the UN in Geneva in 2017, providing evidence of the UK Government’s human rights violations against disabled people.

Natasha is the first deaf vice president of the National Union of Journalists and chairs the NUJ’s Equality Council and Photographers’ Council.

She was a co-researcher on the ground-breaking ‘Legally Disabled?’ project, which explored the career experiences of disabled people in the legal profession and she has co-authored guidance on accessibility, inclusion and reasonable adjustments.

Outside of journalism, Natasha is the chair of Disability Arts Cymru, and chairs the Welsh Government Access to Services working group which is part of the Disability Rights Taskforce.
